Casino Strategy - Roulette
Roulette is a well-known game that rivals Poker and Blackjack in popularity. The game is centered around the Roulette Wheel and in American casinos is divided into thirty-eight slots which are numbered one thru thirty-six. The other two slots are numbered zero and double zero. All the numbers are colored either red or black.
The betting field is a flat table surface of numbered and colored squares which correspond to the numbers and color schemes of the Roulette Wheel. Players are issued chips of varied value when the game is played in a land-based casino.
To begin the game, the dealer spins the Roulette Wheel in a single direction, then rolls a small ball along the Wheel’s inner edge in the opposite direction. The ball spins around the Wheel and eventually drops into one of the Roulette Wheel’s numbered slots. That number is the winning number of the game.
For the new Roulette players’ guidance, there are various ways to bet:
- Straight-up: One number bet - all individual numbers plus 0 and 00.
- Column: Twelve number bet - pays on any number in that vertical column.
- Split: Pays when any one of two numbers hits.
- Trio: Pays when any of three numbers hit.
There are many variations of the above. Always be well-versed in the rules of the casino of your choice before you play to avoid unwelcome misunderstandings.
Much like Keno and state-run Lotteries, Roulette is a game of chance and like Keno and Lotto is an easy game to play.
At a brick-and-mortar establishment, there can be many players at a table. This sometimes results in long delays between spins as the dealer waits for all bets to be placed. Once the Roulette Wheel is set in motion, no further bets are allowed.
